In March 2018, the European Commission initiated a safeguard investigation on imports of steel products. In July 2018, a provisional safeguard measure was imposed. In February 2019, a safeguard measure was imposed. In February 2021, a review was initiated and the safeguard measure was extended in June 2021. In May 2022, the application of safeguard measures was temporarily suspended against Ukraine. In February 2024, a sunset review was initiated and in June 2024 the measure was extended until June 2026.
