EU: Commission proposes new steel import tariff-rate quota system to replace current safeguard system in July 2026

In October 2025, the European Commission presented a proposal to protect the Union's steel sector from "unfair impacts of global overcapacity". The proposal aims to replace the current steel safeguard mechanism in force until June 2026 (see related state act).
