Industrial Policy: Subsidies and State Support

The same server that tracks tariffs also tracks the subsidies, state loans, and grants governments hand to their own industries: the other half of how governments compete on cost.

Who is spending the most.

Which countries have introduced the most industrial subsidies since the start of 2025?
Example responsedata as of 28 July 2026
CountrySubsidy measures since 1 Jan 2025
China574
United States354
Italy255
Brazil251
Germany251

A live ranking recomputed from the record at the moment you ask, not a static list.

One country's recent measures.

What subsidy measures has South Korea introduced since 2024?
Example responsedata as of 23 July 2026

Most recent measure, newest first:

  • 3 July 2026 — a KRW 300 billion Eximbank loan facility for small and medium enterprises.

The full answer continues back through 2024, one entry per measure, each with a link to its full GTA record.

Export Controls

Export bans, licensing requirements, and entity-list additions (the measures that restrict what leaves a country rather than what enters it) sit in the same database, one filter away.

A jurisdiction's recent restrictions.

What export controls has China introduced since 2023?
Example responsedata as of 28 July 2026

134 export-control interventions on record since 1 January 2023 (44 export bans, 56 licensing requirements, 33 quotas, one export tax), newest first:

  • 24 July 2026 — fourteen EU entities added to the Export Control List.
  • 10 July 2026 — temporary export ban on helium.
  • June 2026 — sixteen Japanese entities added to the Export Control List; twenty more added to a dual-use watch list.
  • June 2026 — ten US entities added to the Export Control List.

The remaining measures run back to 2023, each linked to its GTA record.

US Tariffs: Ask for a Rate, a Timeline, or a Comparison

The assistant reads every legal basis currently in force, a national-security tariff here, a retaliatory one there, an emergency measure somewhere else, and works out what a shipment actually pays, not the published statutory rate. Four questions cover most first sessions. The bracketed codes (HS 8703.23 and similar) are standard customs product codes; you can ask without them, as the second example shows.

A rate on a specific day.

What's the current US tariff rate on a German passenger car (HS 8703.23) imported today?
Example responsedata as of 28 July 2026

The applied US tariff on a German passenger car (HS 8703.23) imported today is 15.00%.

ComponentContribution
MFN base rate2.50%
Section 232 autos, capped by the US–EU tariff deal12.50% (27.50% without the deal)
Applied rate15.00%

Every figure links back to the GTA records and official sources behind it.

A rate on a product you can't name the code for.

I don't know the HS code. What's the US tariff on office computing equipment from China?

The assistant looks up the matching HS codes first, then calculates the rate for the one you mean.

Example responsedata as of 23 July 2026

Matched product code: HS 8471.30 — office computing equipment.

ComponentContribution
Section 23225.00%
Applied rate25.00%

One input here is adjustable: how much of the product's value counts as “transport” under the Section 232 test. Push on it if you want to see the rate move.

How a rate has moved over time.

How has the US tariff on Canadian alloy steel flat products (HS 7226.91.05) changed since the start of 2025?

The assistant traces every regime change on record and returns a table, one row per date the rate actually moved.

Example responsedata as of 28 July 2026

Key points shown here; the live answer lists one row per regime change in between.

A comparison across countries.

Compare the US tariff on semiconductors (HS 8542.31) across China, Vietnam, Mexico, and Germany.

The assistant runs the same calculation for each country and sorts the results cheapest first.

What a deal is worth.

What would the US tariff on a German passenger car be without the US-EU tariff deal?
Example responsedata as of 28 July 2026

With the US–EU tariff deal the applied rate is capped at 15.00%; without it the rate would be 27.50%. The cap saves 12.5 percentage points on this product.

The counterfactual comes back in the same response whenever a deal is in force; no separate query is needed.

Who bears the most.

Which G20 country faces the highest average US tariff today?
Example responsedata as of 28 July 2026
