In March 2025, the U.S. President issued an executive order directing the Department of Commerce to investigate whether imports of timber, lumber, and derivative products threaten national security. In September 2025, U.S. Administration announced additional duties on the imports of timber, lumber and their derivative products to address national security concerns.
