Export Restrictions: Medical Goods

This Thread tracks export restrictions affecting HS codes for medical consumables, equipment, medicines, vaccines, as well as chemicals used in pharmaceutical production. It covers policy actions monitored by Global Trade Alert since 2009. To identify relevant policy actions, the Global Trade Alert team focused on the identification of relevant intervention types and HS codes. For intervention types, it focused on export tax; export ban; export quota; export tariff quotas; export licensing requirements; export-related-non-tariff-measures-nes; and local supply requirement for exports. Regarding the relevant HS codes, it uses the products listed in the GTA Essential Goods Initiative, as well as goods listed in the OECD report ‘Shortages of Medicines in OECD Countries’ (Chapman et al., 2022).
