On 16 July 2014, Sri Lanka changed its Special Commodity Levy on potatoes and sugar.
This levy is valid for a period of 3 months.
The Special Commodity Levy is a composite duty on the product and no other tax, duty, cess etc. is applicable on the said product while the levy is valid.

Import tariff
It reduced the Special Commodity Levy on import of potatoes from Rs. 15 per kg to Rs. 5 per kg. The levy on potatoes was increased to Rs. 15 per kg. already on 15 August 2014.

Import tariff
Furthermore, it increased the same on sugar imports from Rs. 25 per kg. to Rs. 28 per kg. The duty on sugar was increased to Rs. 33 per kg on 5 September 2014. (see related measure).
