In December 2024, the USTR announced the initiation of a Section 301 investigation into China's acts, policies, and practices related to targeting of the semiconductor industry for dominance. In December 2025, the USTR determined that China’s acts, policies, and practices are actionable under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974. The U.S. government decided to impose additional tariffs on semiconductor products originating from China.
