In April 2023, China's Ministry of Commerce announced the launch of a trade barrier investigation into Taiwan’s trade restrictions on imports from mainland China. In December 2023, it announced the conclusion of the probe, determining that "the trade restrictive measures imposed by the Taiwan region on the mainland constitute a foreign trade barrier".
