In April 2013, the government of Canada initiated an anti-subsidy investigation on imports of certain silicon metal from China. In July 2013, a preliminary duty was imposed. In November 2013, a definitive duty was imposed. In October 2018, a sunset review was initiated, and the definitive duty was extended for a new period in August 2019. In June 2024, a sunset review was initiated, and the definitive duty was extended for a new period in April 2025.
