In May 2025, the United States initiated an antidumping investigation on imports of silicon metal from Angola, Australia, the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and Norway. In September 2025, a provisional duty was imposed on imports from Angola and the Lao People's Democratic Republic. In February 2026, a provisional duty was imposed on imports from Australia and Norway. The investigation concerning imports from Australia and Norway is still in progress. In April 2026, a definitive duty was imposed on imports from Angola and the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
