United States of America: Additional fees imposed on all vessels following Section 301 investigation into China’s maritime, logistics, and shipbuilding sectors

Announcement

17 Apr 2024

In April 2024, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) initiated a Section 301 investigation into China’s policies in the maritime, logistics, and shipbuilding sectors, following a petition from five U.S. labor unions. In January 2025, the USTR concluded that China’s practices are actionable under Section 301. In November 2025, the United States announced a one-year suspension of the resulting measures, effective from 10 November 2025 to 9 November 2026, to allow for negotiations with China.
