Spain: EUR 250 million financial grant scheme to support certain gas-intensive companies in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine

In May 2022, the European Commission approved a Spanish financial grant scheme to support 5 manufacturing sectors in the context of higher gas prices. In June 2022, the budget was doubled (from EUR 125 million to EUR 250 million) and the number of manufacturing industries eligible for the aid expanded as well. The scheme forms part of the Spanish national response plan to the economic challenges following the Russian invasion of Ukraine adopted in March 2022 (see related state act).
