EC: Adjustment of tariff quotas on certain fruits & vegetables

On 18 April 2013, the European Commission issued Regulation 353/2013, adjusting the trigger level for a multitude of fruits and vegetables (initially regulated in Regulation 543/2011); namely: cucumbers, cherries, other than sour, apricots, tomatoes, plums, peaches, including nectarines, and table grapes. The trigger level defines the preferential import tariff quota. Imports above the trigger level will be subject to additional duties. Therefore, an increase in the trigger level is seen as an indirect decrease in the import duties, while a decrease in the trigger level represents an augmentation in the import duties. Update With the regulation 443/2014, the trigger levels for all above mentioned products have been amended and this measure is therefore suspended with the entry into force of Regulation 443/2014 on 30 April 2014 (see related measure).
