Announcement

23 Jul 2025

In July 2025, Japan announced a trade agreement with the US. It includes commitments by the Japanese government to provide up to USD 550 billion in investment, loans and loan guarantees to Japanese companies investing in the US, increase the proportion of US imports within the existing Japanese tariff rate quota on staple rice, as well as expand purchases of US agricultural products, including bioethanol, soybeans, corn, and fertilisers, as well as other US-made products, such as semiconductors, aircraft, and energy, including LNG. In September 2025, the parties specified the details of implementation of the agreement in the Memorandum of Understanding and the Joint Statement.
