In December 2020, the Government of Malta published the National Foreign Direct Investment Screening Act, setting the new FDI screening regime and the rules for the functioning of the National Office for Foreign Direct Investment Screening. The Office will be competent to assess and investigate if certain non-EU investments in specific sectors may affect the security or public order in Malta, and to authorise, condition, prohibit or unwind them accordingly.
