In October 2020, the European Commission approved a partial exemption from the payment of social security contributions to employers located in the Southern regions of Italy, which have been the most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The estimated budget amounts to EUR 1,487.5 million (approx. USD 1,749 million).
