On 14 November 2016, the European Commission decided not to raise objections against a direct grant of 264 million EUR notified by the German government in April 2016 which aims to partially cover the non-wage labour costs in maritime shipping for the years 2018 - 2020. A similar scheme was already approved twice, in 2006 and 2013.
