SACU: Exemption of customs duty on certain machinery and equipment

On 14 August 2009, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) issued Notice no. 833 exempting the customs duty on certain machinery and equipment under HS 84 and 85. This was done in light of South Africa’s capital expenditures and its National Industrial Policy Framework (NIPF) and Action Plan. Similar to this measure is also SARS Notice no. 832. For this, please consult measure no. 10265 under Related Measures. Affected trading partners The GTA retrieves its data on affected trading partners from UN Comtrade. However, for the year 2008, the database was not able to provide the affected trading partners for Botswana, Eswatini, and Lesotho.
