In November 2020, the European Commission approved a EUR 481.1 million (approx. USD 572 million) aid scheme consisting of an exemption for Italian employers from the payment of their social security contributions, for a maximum of four months, until 31 December 2020. The measure aims at supporting employers negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy.
