On 28 August 2016, the Romanian authorities notified the European Commission of its intention to grant rescue aid in form of a 6-month loan to the state-owned company Compania Nationala a Uraniului SA (CNU). The Commission issued its decision not to raise objections to the rescue aid on 30 September 2016. In March 2017, the loan period was extended until 31 December 2021.
