In January 2025, the President of the Philippines signed into law Republic Act No. 12120, otherwise known as the "Philippine Natural Gas Industry Development Act", which introduced, among other measures, value-added tax exemptions for transactions involving indigenous natural gas. In March 2026, the Department of Finance and the Bureau of Internal Revenue issued regulations implementing these exemptions.
