In June 2025, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) increased the general rate of customs duty on transformer cores from 5% to 15% and changed the duties on imports from MERCOSUR and AfCFTA. The change applies to transformer cores with a power handling capacity not exceeding 50'000 KVA.
