In August 2010, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce (DoC) approved USD 21.7 million in funding to Ocean State Higher Education Economic Development Administrative Network to expand the deployment of broadband infrastructure in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
