In June 2017, the United States initiated an anti-dumping investigation on imports of citric acid and certain citrate salts from Belgium, Colombia and Thailand. In January 2018, a provisional duty was imposed. In July 2018, a definitive duty was imposed. In June 2023, a sunset review was initiated and the definitive duty was extended for a new period in August 2024 (applicable extension date is 19 July 2024).
