On 13 March 2012, the President of the Republic, Hugo Chavez Frias, adopted Decree No. 8.847 eliminating all tariffs, duties and value added tax (VAT) for several countries.
This measure entered into force on the same day for a period of five years.

Import tariff
The duties were lowered on imports of medical equipment and goods such as medicaments, vaccines, and surgical equipment from China, Colombia, Germany, Portugal, and Türkiye.
