On 19 August 2018, the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources, and the Minister for Regional Development announced a new set of measures to support farmers affected by the drought. The new resources will increase the total government expenditure related to drought-relief from AUD 576 million (USD 421.5 million at the time of the announcement) to AUD 1.8 billion (USD 1.3 billion at the time of the announcement).
