Announcement
20 Mar 2017
On 20 March 2017, the Thai government announced the Excise Tax Act (2017), which is to come into force on September 16, 2017. The revised act increases taxes and consolidates acts on seven products, including alcoholic beverages, playing cards, sugary drinks, and tobacco.
Under the new act, both domestic and imported goods are now subject to the same tax collection method, based on a Suggested Retail Price (“SRP”). Previously, the tax collection method for domestic goods relied on the ex-factory price, while imported goods relied on Cost, Insurance and Freight ("CIF").
