On 19 December 2016, the European Commission decided not to raise objections against a scheme notified by the Italian government in February 2016 which aims to encourage a shift of freight from road to coastal and short sea shipping transport. The total budget of the scheme will be 138.4 million EUR for the years 2016-2018.
