The Central Bank of Nigeria on 09 May 2013, via Circular BPS/DIR/CIR/04/2013 titled as 'Deposit Money Banks, Cheque Printers and other Stakeholders on the the Accreditation of Cheque Printers for 2013/14', for the first time authorised only Nigerian printing companies to print cheque books which are to be used in the Nigerian territory for a given fiscal year.
