In March 2024, Shell received the government authorisation to sell its share in the Sakhalin-2 operator to Sakhalin Project LLC (Gazprom's subsidiary) and repatriate capital from Russia. The government also declared invalid its previous authorisation of Shell's share to Novatek's subsidiary.
